Motocross
FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship
Since 2007, Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe is an official sponsor of the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship. It is the top worldwide competition in motocross, comparable to Formula 1 in car racing.
“We were eager to contribute to this sport,” says HHIE managing director J.W. Hwang, “because of the strong synergy between high-performance motorcycles on the race track and hard-working construction site machines. Both stand up to the challenge of performing competently and reliably in a tough and highly competitive off-road working environment. “
“This is something with which owners and operators of construction machines can readily identify. Furthermore, motocross is all about the combination of professionalism and sheer fun,” Mr. Hwang added.
Football
Ulsan Hyundai Tigers (K-League)
HHI also sponsors athletics in South Korea. As the main sponsor of the Ulsan Hyundai Tigers (Hyundai Horang-i), a K-League team, the company even gave its name to the team. The K-League is South Korea's professional club football league and is one of the most successful football leagues in Asia. The Ulsan Hyundai Tigers won the K-League for the first time in 1996 and again, after being runner-up several times, in 2005.
